Anne is one of 11 attorneys who have worked on revisions to the Oregon Nonprofit Law, ORS 65, over the past two years. The revisions proposed are not substantive in nature but have been made to streamline, update, simplify, and clarify current law. Here is a draft of the proposed changes. Anne has joined the Reentry Law Project Advisory Committee for the Oregon Justice Resource Center. She will assist with strategic and legal issues for the Reentry Law Project which offers free legal assistance to people with criminal histories.
Anne has also joined the Multnomah County "A Home for Everyone" Coordinating Board. “A Home for Everyone” is a community-wide effort to house homeless Multnomah County citizens by making smart investments in the areas of housing, income, survival, emergency services, health, access to services and systems coordination. Key partners in the effort include Multnomah County, the City of Portland (link is external), the City of Gresham(link is external), Home Forward(link is external), local nonprofits and members of the public.

Meet Flower. Orphaned and only weeks old, ao client Turtle Ridge Wildlife Center is caring for her during these early weeks so she can be re-released to the wild when she is ready. We were delighted to sponsor her recovery. Skunks are a natural and necessary part of our animal kingdome family - often mistreated terribly.

Anne has joined the Oregon State Bar Nonprofit Organizations Law Section (NOLS). NOLS serves the people of Oregon by helping Oregon attorneys to better serve the very diverse range of non-governmental and nonprofit entities. NOLS will offer attorneys opportunities to be on the cutting edge of the laws governing and the best practices for working with nonprofits. NOLS members will also advise the bar and, when appropriate, the Legislature, on matters affecting nonprofits.You do not have to be an attorney to be a member ~ check it out, NOLS.

Check out the City of Portland's "Summer Free for All", which has several links to free activities in Portland during August. (You can even sign up for text alerts for upcoming events.) You and yours might enjoy the movies in the parks, free concerts or the mobile rock climbing wall.
Anne has been nominated and accepted for the ballot to serve on the board of the Oregon Bar Association Nonprofit Law Section.
The elections will be held on september 28. Stay tuned for race results.

The RTC will host students from the Ninth Grade Counts, part of the City of Portland's Summer Youth Connect program on August 2. The program is a great way for kids to learn what jobs are available and what the world of work is really like.

The course provides a grounded understanding of how we have come to our current ideas about poverty and what we can do to more effectively eradicate it. The course is set up around weekly readings and activities. Students are able to login at any time during the day or night to participate. More re-entry work news: in June, our own Anne O’Malley and Doug Cooper of Mercy Corps Northwest gave the keynote speech at Irvington Covenant CDC's annual dinner. Anne spoke about second chances, the state of our corrections system and a better way to work with those trying to re-gain entrance into our communities. Doug introduced the ROAR Alliance (Re-entry Organizations and Resources), a collaboration of 45 agencies, companies, and community organizations working on the re-entry continuum. The ROAR Alliance, chaired by Doug and Anne, has been meeting now for more than two years.

The ROAR Transition Center (RTC), created by the ROAR Alliance, has been awarded a coveted United Way Community Investment grant and will open on August 17. The RTC will use national evidence based practices to run a re-entry transition center for our folks who are coming out of institutions wanting to start a new life in our community.
